U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) has teamed with Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) to reintroduce legislation aimed at helping veterans.

If enacted, the Housing Our Military Servicemembers (HOMeS) Act (H.R. 715) would expand access to housing and legal services to veterans and their families by changing funding allocations for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The HOMeS Act would change U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rules to give community organizations and local government agencies greater access to funds to assist homeless servicemembers and those at risk of homelessness.

“It is unconscionable that any veteran should find themselves living on the streets. Yet, this is an all-too common, unfortunate reality for many,” Beatty said. “That is why I have joined Congressman Stivers in this bipartisan effort to reintroduce the Housing Our Military Servicemembers Act to take an important step toward ensuring that all of our nation’s former servicemembers have a safe place to call ‘Home Sweet
Home.’ ”

H.R. 715 has been referred to the Committee on Financial Services.
