“Our nation and world face unprecedented threats that demand leaders who will stand up to defend us. I have the experience and steady hand our country needs. As a 30 year veteran of the Ohio Army National Guard, I led our service men and women to keep our country safe. I would be honored to have your support.” – Steve Stivers
A Small Town Boy
Born and raised in a small town in Southern Ohio, Steve Stivers learned from his parents the values of hard work, public service, and the need to work together to get things done. These are the values he has lived all his life – working his way through college at The Ohio State University, building a successful career at the Ohio Company and Bank One, and serving in the Ohio Army National Guard.
Serving His Country
With a love for our country and a commitment to the American way of life, Steve joined the Ohio Army National Guard while in college. Now, with more than 30 years of service, he holds the rank of Brigadier General and is proud to have served our nation overseas as a Battalion Commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Djibouti. While deployed, Steve led 400 soldiers and contractors and is proud that each and every individual returned safely home following their mission. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his accomplishments and leadership during the deployment.
A Leader in the State Senate
Steve served as a State Senator from January 2003 until December 2008. Throughout his service in the Ohio General Assembly, State Senator Stivers was an advocate for programs and initiatives that promoted economic development and encouraged job creation. The legislative accomplishments Steve is most proud of include his work to help disabled Ohioans obtain medical coverage, the passage of a conservative state budget, providing the largest property tax cut in Ohio history, and freezing tuition costs for Ohio’s college students.
A Leader in Congress
In Congress, Steve is a leader in the fight for a Balanced Budget Amendment and to curb government overregulation that is killing American jobs and entrepreneurship. He has also passed a number of bills to ensure that following their service, America’s veterans are taken care of as they deal with the mental and physical wounds of war, seek employment, and pursue higher education and training.
Private Sector Experience
Steve has experience in the private sector, working with companies to improve operations, explore new opportunities, and create and retain jobs. As a consultant and small businessman, Steve saw firsthand the struggles facing small businesses and is working in Congress to create a more positive business environment for our country and state — one in which small businesses can thrive and succeed.
A Proud Husband and Father
With all of his priorities – a dedication to public service, his work to help small businesses, and his commitment as a member of the armed services – Steve considers his family his top priority. Steve and his wife, Karen, reside in Columbus, where they are raising their two children, Sarah and Sam.
